Round-Up of Indie Games: August 2024
August seems to be shaping up to be one of the best months for quality independent games, if not the best of the last several years. Whatever genre you like, this month will offer you something very amazing to look forward to.
We were forced to exclude a couple very amazing titles from our list since there were just too many possibilities for this month. In any case, it’s still lengthier than usual, so let’s get straight into the top independent games of August.

First of August – Kitsune Tails
First on our list is Kitsune Tails, which seems to be a lot of fun. As a kitsune with incredible powers, you must traverse an ancient region influenced by Japanese mythology in this platforming game. In addition to the absolutely flawless retro visuals, there are a ton of characters to get to know, unique mechanics to learn, and a ton of costumes to acquire. Delightful, as we have mentioned.
Realm of Ink: August 2nd
Good Lord, that seems like a fun game. In the action-roguelite game Realm of Ink, you play as Red, a swordswoman who must attempt to escape the confines of a book that hold her fate. The game’s environment gives the impression that every element was made with a calligraphy brush, yet it has much more to offer than simply gorgeous graphics. The gameplay also seems well polished.

Ava’s Creatures – August 7
In the game Creatures of Ava, you take control of a mysterious planet and must work to halt the spread of a terrifying virus in order to save the animals. In addition to saving the animals, you’ll need to learn about them and work out how to tame them so they can guide you to the locations you need to travel. We can’t wait to play it since it looks amazing.
Cat Quest III: August 8th
The Cat Quest games are really a lot of fun, despite their premise—especially if you’re a younger player or a parent playing with your kids. Cat Quest III, the third game in the series, brings the action to the domain of pirates, meaning there is a lot more sailing and enough of the typical cat jokes and warfare to enjoy. But what truly sets this game apart is split-screen co-op, so we’re happy to see it back in the most recent installment. It’s going to be incredible.

August 8, SteamWorld Heist II
Gamers have always had access to an enormous selection of well crafted genre mash-ups that look fantastic and are equally enjoyable to play thanks to the SteamWorld series. The good news for fans of the first game in this series is that SteamWorld Heist 2, the newest addition to the SteamWorld-verse, looks to build on the same turn-based tactical fights that made the first one so much fun while adding more mechanics and a ton of new characters to adore.
Level Zero: Displacement – August 13
I think one of the most fascinating game genres out there is soon to emerge: extraction games. Since Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown truly got things going, they have been steadily improving, and Level Zero: Extraction seems to be the next major competitor for the top slot. Thanks to its fearsome creatures, it amplifies the genre’s inherent suspense by including genuine horror aspects. The interesting twist, however, is that you may actively chase other players while playing as one of the aliens. Let’s see you do it in Tarkov!

Roads of Rogue 2 – Postponed
If Streets of Rogue 2 proves to be an improvement over its predecessor, it might very well be a strong candidate for game of the year. For those who are unaware, Streets of Rogue 2 is the follow-up to a game that essentially combined the humor of long-form improv with the immersive elements of Dishonored. We are thrilled with the outcome, which is a roguelike with an endless number of solutions, a much wider environment, more classes, and more playable gameplay. It’s also completely cooperative, but be warned—you could find yourself feeling more like rivals than allies.
August 22, Tactical Breach Wizards
Imagine being in charge of a group of skilled wizards that eliminated enemies while escaping dangerous circumstances. The good thing is that Tactical Breach Wizards focuses precisely on it. In order to uncover a conspiracy scheme, you must lead your gang of wizards through strategic circumstances in this turn-based game. To succeed, you’ll need to combine spells and make astute strategic choices as possible, but at least you can turn back time.

Core Keeper: August 27
And lastly, Core Keeper. Although Core Keeper was just released in Early Access at the beginning of 2022, it was already a fantastic spin on survival games in the vein of Terraria. Since then, it has undergone significant development, and the complete version includes additional delights like new spellcasting classes and features. Additionally, it supports up to eight people in cooperative mode. It’s not often that we get to play around in a world with that many of our pals outside of an MMO. Watching this is highly recommended.
